The stainless steel chinstrap lugs are the MkIII type and are very faintly marked III 1940. The factory stamps under the flare are JSS 57 1 1941 (Joseph Sankey & Sons Ltd, Bilston). When acquired the shell outer had multiple layers of paint, the top layer was red; the inner was covered in layers of grey. The shell cleaned up nicely; it was stripped
